The power of imagination and manifestation
Sometimes by weathering storms we didn’t ask for, we learn the most valuable lesson: that we are the masters of our fate and the captains of our soul. I’ve definitely learned it the hard way, when there was no-one saving me. Today I am grateful for this opportunity to grow and I understand:
Life is like an ocean. We cannot control the waves or where the wind comes from, but we can adjust our sails, choose our course, and keep moving toward what matters most. In order to do so successfully we need a direction and we need to be aware of the horizon and the sky above us, otherwise we get lost in the open sea.
Mastery isn’t about controlling everything, it’s about navigating with clarity, courage, and an open heart. And then we become the person ready to receive what we’ve imagined, trusting ourself even when the waters are rough.
That’s why “My Ship” by Kurt Weill (lyrics by Ira Gershwin), written in 1941 for Lady in the Dark, has always felt so powerful to me. I first heard it as a jazz standard, interpreted by Julie Andrews and Ella Fitzgerald, and it hit me on a level beyond music. The song isn’t just about waiting for our dreams, it’s about manifesting dreams, holding faith, nurturing our vision, and learning to surrender while staying true to our values.

In “My Ship”, the singer imagines a ship laden with treasures: silk, silver, and gold that symbolize abundance. Yet the ship doesn’t arrive until the singer is ready and so the journey is about becoming the person capable of receiving the life imagined. To me the song feels like a guide: imagine boldly, trust deeply, hold onto what matters, and surrender to the current that is carrying us. It reminds us that the ship only arrives when the inner world is ready, when imagination and trust line up with what the heart truly seeks, nurtured by love. That’s when the magic happens.
The ship is always sailing toward us, but it only docks when mind, heart, and soul are ready.
